We are excited to add Derrick Brew to our team of expert coaches in our North Houston training center. Derrick attended Klein Forrest High School before attending Louisiana State University where he is a school record holder in the 400m. His greatest sports accomplishment was a 2004 Olympic Gold and Bronze medal during the Athens Olympic Games. Derrick brings an impressive history of speed development skills to our North Houston training center.
In addition to running a Track and Field Performance program with aspiring track athletes, Derrick will work with our amateur programs and help develop speed programs for all of our athletes. We sat down with Derrick to learn more about what drives him to succeed and why he chose to work with Athlete Training and Health.

ATH: What motivates amateur athletes?
DB: Amateur athletes are motivated by winning and being the best at what they enjoy doing.
What lessons would you want to make sure amateur athletes believe and buy into to be the best they can be?
Committing to the work required to be the best and having determination to doing what it takes to maintain the status.
What’s the importance of training the right way?
Training the right way is important for two reasons. Proper training reduces chances of injuries and down time due to injuries. Also, proper training helps an athlete peak at the right time.
Why did you choose to work with ATH?
I choose to work with ATH to share my knowledge as a speed specialist and team up with ATH to incorporate their expertise to develop healthy successful athletes.
What are some of your best experiences with Texas athletics?
My experiences as athlete and coach have been tied to two state championships. My state championship 400m gold and coaching one of my athletes to a state champion in the 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles.
Tell us about the Track and Field Program you are conducting at ATH.
In our ten-month training program, our vision is to foster a positive and supportive training environment, which will assist athletes from ages 12-18. Improving their overall physical capabilities, mental stamina, competitive drive and increase visibility on state and national levels. This program will promote the development of youth Track and Field and provide long-term growth opportunities to athletes through their affiliation of the sport.
In addition to training programs for youth athletes, Derrick has organized track clinics around the world and aided in the development of the USATF “Be a Champion” Program. Derrick is also USATF Member Certified.
Derrick’s expertise in coaching and developing talent comes from an extensive personal history of athletic accomplishments.
