$10M Athletics Facility Brings Athletes, Orthopedic Surgeons, Rehabilitation, Fitness and Performance Training Under One Roof
ALLEN, Jun. 19 – Texas Health Sports Medicine joined with Athlete Training and Health, Allen Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and members of the Allen community to break ground on a new athletics and fitness facility at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen. The $10-million facility brings together athletes and fitness enthusiasts from across the Collin County area where they have access to orthopedic surgeons, rehabilitation for injuries, fitness classes and athletic performance training in one convenient location.
“We’re excited to welcome athletes of all ages as we build lasting relationships with families in the community,” said Jared Shelton, FACHE, president of Texas Health Allen. “With the recent topping out of the new 75-bed tower and now the construction of a new athletics facility, Texas Health Allen is dedicated to meeting the needs of our growing city.”
The more than 31,000 square foot building includes an indoor training turf, a full-length outdoor soccer field and state-of-the-art strength and conditioning training equipment for athletes of all abilities. Athlete Training and Health will collaborate with Texas Health in its operations of its second DFW-area training center.
“This project is truly centered on improving the health and well-being of the people in the Allen community, and doing it in a collaborative fashion that brings together the best of sports science and sports medicine,” said Danny Cooper, chief strategy officer of Athlete Training and Health. “ATH shares Texas Heath’s vision of lifelong well-being by redefining the relationship between human performance and health care.”
“Texas Health Sports Medicine is committed to injury prevention as well as caring for athletes from the moment of injury to return-to-play and beyond,” said Tom Caldwell, vice president of Texas Health Sports Medicine. “That’s why we’re making this kind of investment in this program, which will be the first hospital-based facility of its kind in North Texas.”
With an expected completion in the summer of 2020, athletes and weekend warriors will have access to on-site orthopedic physician specialists, expert coaches, fitness classes and rehabilitation services.
“The work we do will enhance injury prevention as well as clinical research,” Caldwell said. “The 3-D motion lab will allow sports medicine experts to capture and understand an athlete’s movement to determine where injuries could occur. Numerous other features of the facility will also provide advanced training and treatment for athletes.”
In addition to the building, the site provides outdoor green space with pathways for pedestrians and bicyclists, an adult fitness patio and a multi-purpose turf training field for teams and local organizations.
This is just one of the construction projects underway at Texas Health Allen. Hospital leaders recently celebrated a construction milestone – the ‘topping out’ of the new 75-bed tower. The $68-million building will include additional operating suites, a second cardiac catheterization lab, pharmacy and conference space. The completion date is scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.
Athlete Training and Health currently runs a training center in Arlington in collaboration with Texas Health Resources. The company also has three Houston-area locations in partnership with Memorial Hermann Healthcare System, including its newest location on the Memorial Hermann Katy campus, which is scheduled to open in July.
